Ian “Molly” Meldrum has publicly apologised for his onstage wardrobe malfunction at Sir Elton John’s Melbourne concert. Molly puts the blame for his ‘accidental’ malfunction on a faulty belt buckle.
The Australian music legend was in attendance at Elton’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour when the star and long time friend paid tribute to Molly, labelling him as a “national treasure” before thanking Molly for his “love and loyalty” over the years.
Meldrum then made his way onstage and found himself standing next to Elton and his piano as he performed. Meldrum then stunned the audience with his wardrobe malfunction which laid his rear end bare and for all to see.
The incident sent social media in to meltdown with mixed reactions to the incident.
It’s 2023. You know, I’m not easily shocked. Except when I see this! 😂🫣👀

Meldrum spoke to the Herald Sun, where he explained that Sir Elton had no idea he would make his way onstage. “I feel terrible if any of the security people get in trouble. The whole thing was 100 per cent my idea – no one else knew what I was doing. Elton might have been singing The Bitch Is Back but it was more a case of The Idiot is Back,” he told the outlet.
He also went on to say that “I shouldn’t have crashed Elton’s show. As for my performance being more revealing than it should have been … well, at the start of the night, my belt buckle broke and my pants were already falling down. And on stage, one thing led to another,” he told the Herald Sun, dubbing himself “a naughty boy, who needs a new belt.”
