Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series debuted to resounding acclaim last week, and its impact is reverberating across the gaming landscape. Infact it’s been reported that on PC and Consoles there is a significant surge in concurrent player counts for various titles within the “Fallout” franchise following the show’s release.
The standout performer in this surge is “Fallout 4,” which has witnessed a remarkable leap in player numbers. Weekend peaks, which had plateaued between 20,000 and 24,000 over the past six months, skyrocketed to an impressive 83,491 on Sunday. Similarly, “Fallout 76” experienced a substantial increase, jumping from 13,000 players to a staggering 39,455 on the same day, smashing its previous all-time peak concurrent player count.
Not to be outdone, both “Fallout: New Vegas” and “Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition” also saw their player bases triple, demonstrating the broad impact of the TV series. Bethesda, the studio behind the franchise, astutely seized the opportunity by launching a sale on “Fallout” games concurrent with the show’s debut, resulting in a significant uptick in sales across the franchise.
Bethesda took to social media to welcome all the new and returning players who have been inspired by the popularity of the show.

Further fueling the frenzy, Bethesda recently announced a next-gen upgrade for “Fallout 4,” set to release on April 25th. This upgrade promises enhanced performance with 60 frames per second modes on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, coupled with additional fidelity improvements and new quests, further enticing both new and returning players.
Fallout has given the blueprint for how to successfully adapt a video game to a TV series and has already been renewed for a second season. It follows “The Last of Us” which also had a successful adaptation, but it is not always the case… yes we are looking at you Halo (although season 2 was far better than 1 for that show).
