A new poll has revealed more than 7 in 10 Australians would support the Federal Government intervening to ensure regional airline Rex continues servicing critical routes.
The You Gov poll also revealed 75 %, or three-quarters, think the Government should take an equity stake when it bails out failing companies such as Rex.
The survey also showed 74% of Australians support the creation of a new independent commission to set standards for aviation jobs and services.
Meanwhile, Rex is no closer to overcoming financial difficulties which saw the regional carrier go into voluntary administration in July.
At the time, Rex grounded all capital city jet services after it was revealed it was losing $1 million a week.
However, regional flights, which include services to and from Devonport, Burnie and King Island have continued.
In August, the administrator was given an extension until November 25 to find a buyer for the troubled airline, but industry sources are now saying there’s been little or no interest from potential buyers.
