Tasmania Police say they will continue to monitor driver behaviour on the Bass highway after nabbing dozens of speedsters at over the weekend.
25 drivers were detected over the speed limit in a recently reduced speed limit zone near Leith, where the limit was dropped several weeks ago from 110 km/hr to 90 km/hr.
In addition to the speeders, two motorists were issued infringement notices, one for be an unlicensed driver and another for towing an unregistered trailer.
The Department of State Growth say the limit was reduced for 1.6 km of the highway near the junctions of Braddons Lookout Road and Short Street at Leith, which although the crash history is low, the severity can be high.
It says despite the improvements, which cost almost $5 million, the risk of serious crashes remains.
Both the Devonport and Central Coast Councils had lobbied for a speed reduction.
The Department says the speed reduction has added 12 seconds to the trip for traffic passing through.
