The deterioration was detected during the council’s six monthly inspection of bridges and marine structures.

The council says , the need for additional inspections has been identified and the jetty will be inspected monthly during summer to ensure safety for all users.

It says if inspections reveal sufficient condition deterioration, a part or full public closure of the jetty will be required.

In the meantime, the council is investigating options to extend the life of the current structure and its eventual replacement.
