Police not happy with driver behaviour

Police are not impressed with the driving of certain North-West motorists, after more than 40 were recently caught speeding in one day earlier this week.

Targeted patrols were conducted at Smithton, Burnie, Ulverstone, Penguin, Forth and Devonport this week resulted in 50 detections of unsafe driving behaviour, including 43 nabbed for speeding.

Seven of the speedsters were caught exceeding the limit in school zones, which police say is simply not acceptable.

Four P-platers were among those caught speeding, which will result in suspension of their licences, including a 19-year-old East Devonport man, who was detected driving 32kph over the limit and an 18-year-old Smithton man, who was caught 29kph over the limit.

In addition to the 43 speedsters, a handful of other motorists were charged with seat belt, offences, mobile phone offences, unlicensed driving and having unregistered vehicles.

Police say they are increasing patrols and traffic operations in the lead up to Christmas after the disappointing results from this week to ensure everyone using our roads this festive season are safe.
