With the state election campaign in its first week, Tasmanian Labor leader Rebecca White is being accused of performing another ‘Bec-flip’, removing material opposing the Macquarie Point AFL Stadium from the party’s website.
Minister for Stadia and Events, Nic Street, said Labor’s position on the stadium position has worsened, with their “Stop the Stadium” petition airbrushed from their website.
“What exactly is Labor’s position on the stadium?” he asked.
“They say they oppose the stadium, but they voted for it.
“They had a petition against it, but now it’s been airbrushed away.
“At the same time, the incompetent Shadow Treasurer Mr Broad was yesterday describing the stadium as a “folly” and Ms White says she will “renegotiate” the AFL agreement – which is code for rip it up.
“Will she cancel the stadium, 4000 construction jobs, and our own AFL and AFLW teams?
“Ms White is hoping she can sneak through the election campaign without being upfront with Tasmanians about her true position on the stadium.
