Independent Braddon MP Craig Garland will host a community forum in Burnie on Sunday to discuss the future of Bass Strait fisheries.
The forum will be held at the Burnie Arts and Function Centre at 1 pm, with nine guest speakers lined-up at this stage.
Mr Garland says the forum will bring together members of the scientific community and fishers to discuss the proposed sardine fishery for Bass Strait, as well as the proposed offshore salmon and kingfish research trial off the Burnie-Wynyard coastline in Commonwealth waters.
He says he has huge concerns over the proposals, which Mr Garland says are big issues to many people on the North-West Coast.
Mr Garland says the forum is all about informing and educating people, which is why the forum will feature a range of experts together in one place, so the community can hear what they have to say, ask questions, voice their concerns, and be heard.
The event will be live-streamed on Mr Garland’s Craig Garland’s Facebook page for anyone unable to attend.
