The Tasmanian government has announced a $6 million dollar tourism and travel scheme in a bid to prop up the state’s tourism and hospitality industries, amid the Spirit of Tasmania rollout debacle.

Premier and Tourism Minister Jeremy Rockliff says the Government acknowledges the impacts of the delays on the tourism and hospitality industries, particularly on his patch on the North-West Coast and Braddon Electorate.

Mr Rockliff says the scheme will include lowering Spirit of Tasmania fares and additional day sailings and the Government will also invest $5 million into a Spirit preparedness fund.

He says $10 million will also be spent on reviving the tourism voucher scheme for Tasmanians, with 100,000 vouchers worth $100 each through the Eat Local, Stay Local programme.
