Gran’s Table Project
Have you heard about Gran’s Table?
Gran’s Table is a new community project, run by volunteers associated with Gran’s Van, bringing together local schools, businesses, and organizations, offering a weekly free lunch to those who experience food insecurity and/or loneliness.
Come and join us for a community lunch!
Every Saturday at 12pm Gran’s Table crew offers a free lunch in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Hall, next to the Catholic School at Stewart Street. We would like to invite everyone who feels like they could use some company to join us for a warm lunch and a friendly chat with fellow members of our community. Gran’s Table volunteers are here to offer companionship, and a listening ear.
If you ever feel lonely, having no one to talk to, and would like to spend some time with us, we are here, waiting for you every Saturday at 12pm.
What’s on the menu?
Every fortnight we serve soup & sandwiches. On alternative Saturdays we offer a main course. All meals are served with a dessert and a hot drink. Come and check it out.
Who funds our project?
Gran’s Van operating in Devonport for 18 years, supports Gran’s Table project by providing a safe platform to manage volunteers. Gran’s Van also supports us by covering the cost of some groceries.
Gran’s Table soups are cooked by hospitality students at Devonport High School. Main courses are cooked by the students at Don College and St Brendan-Shaw College. The schools often use food donated by local farmers. We also receive donation of fresh produce from St Patrick’s Catholic School in Latrobe, and a donation of groceries from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School.
There is a growing number of local businesses who support our project. Banjo’s Devonport became our first sponsor, offering us a weekly donation of bread. Many other local businesses are considering supporting the project.
If you know someone who lives alone, let them know about us! If you feel like you could use some company, remember – you are not alone! We are here for you. Come and join Gran’s Table this Saturday.
