Preliminary work starts on missing Coastal Pathway link

Sections of the Old Coast Highway between Ulverstone and Penguin are being surveyed for completion of one of the two missing links in the Coastal Pathway Project.

Two links, both around 9km, from West Ulverstone to Penguin and from Heybridge to South Burnie are the final parts of the 110km pathway from Latrobe to Wynyard to be completed.

Both present their unique engineering challenges and will cost around $50 million to complete, and are on the Cradle Coast Authority’s Federal Election wish-list.

The Central Coast Council is currently undertaking a feasibility study on the West Ulverstone to Penguin link, with surveyors on the road this week, which is resulting in minor traffic delays.

The council says although the delays are only minor, the safety of surveyors has to take priority.
