The Department of State Growth says it’s may not be liable for damage caused to vehicles by potholes on the Bass Highway following recent sever weather.
North-West tyre repair and automotive outlets have been kept busy for the past two weeks fixing dozens damaged rims and tyres damage caused by the potholes, with large and numerous potholes being reported in the Table Cape, Boat Harbour, Flowerdale, Wynyard, Sassafras and Paramatta Creek areas.
The Department of State Growth says roads are being repaired as quickly as possible.
The department says it’s not liable for damage resulting from extreme weather as long as it has inspected the damage to the road and fixed it within a reasonable timeframe, which it maintains it has.
If it’s unable to make repairs in a reasonable time, the department says it erects hazard warning signs and reduced speed limits if necessary.
Some of the damaged roads were only re-surfaced a few months ago, which Braddon MP Shane Broad says is evidence they haven’t been constructed or repaired properly and he’s calling on the department to be fair and reasonable when evaluating claims.
Dr Broad is encouraging motorists who have damaged their cars to make a claim, saying he’s helped people in the past to get a satisfactory result in the past.
