The Tasmania Fire Service has praised the efforts of staff at a Hungry Jacks store in Glenorchy after fire tore through the building on Tuesday night.

Regional fire investigator Tim McKay says the quick thinking of workers at the restaurant ensured patrons were evacuated when the fire broke out at about 8.30pm.

Crews from Glenorchy, Bridgewater and Hobart were called to the scene and on arrival found the building to be fully involved in fire.

Fire investigators have been examining the scene on Wednesday to determine the cause.
