A surprising 41% of people feel their texts are “naked” without an emoji. This feeling is especially strong among Gen Z, with 70% believing emojis are essential in text messages, compared to 46% of Gen X.
Context matters, though. A single emoji can sometimes be a conversation killer, according to 32% of survey participants.
This study, conducted by Talker Research with 2,000 Americans, was released just before World Emoji Day on July 17.
When it comes to the types of emojis we use, 58% prefer happy emojis like laughing or smiling faces, while 15% favour sweet emojis like hearts and kisses. Interestingly, 38% of people dream of inventing their own emoji!
As language evolves, emojis have become essential in communication, expressing feelings that words often can’t. Next time you text, remember that a small emoji can make your message feel complete.
