The Nut, at Stanley, has been nominated for inclusion on the National Heritage List.

The Stanley nomination is the only Tasmanian one on the assessment list, which is open to public feedback ahead of any final decision.

The nomination says the geology and landscape of The Nut, which takes it’s name from the indigenous name for the area, Munatrik and its nearby volcanic features are unique in Australia and an important geo-morpho-logical area for the nation, with some features the only documented examples in the world. Meanwhile, Stanley is in the running for an Australian Top Tourism Award, as one of Tasmania’s three finalists, to be announced on Friday night.
