Heavy rains ahead for northern Tasmania
Tasmanians are being urged to prepare for a deluge tonight and tomorrow, as the state gets a taste of the trough that's drenching eastern Australia.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe weather warning for heavy rainfall to affect Devonport, Burnie, Smithton, St Helens, Bicheno and Fingal and surrounding areas.
Forecaster Luke Johnston says it'll be wet and windy across the state.
"We're expecting rainfall at this stage between 40 and 80mm is expected in the area between Smithton and Devonport and the north-east highlands, with 20 to 40mm expected elsewhere in the northern half of Tasmania."
The Bureau has issued an initial flood watch for all northern river basins.
